Sunday Samples 345

September 15, 2013

This weekend I got a chance to see the French comedy Populaire. Among all the classic light jazz and lounge music is a charmingly appropriate cha-cha-cha: “Les secrétaires”, by Jack Ary and his “High Society” Cha Cha.

It’s a great find, since it seems to be a particularly deep cut. Jack Ary is evidently not the same famous French comedic actor, and other than that I can’t seem to find a thing about him. There’s a slightly slower version in Spanish — “Las Secretarias” — by Ruy Rey, who is a similar mystery. I have no idea which version is the original; the composers are listed as “Luis-François”, but that could go to either language as the original. And I can’t find lyrics to help me decipher either version, so that’s out. Still, a charming little song from a charming little film.
