Sunday Samples 340

August 11, 2013

This weekend — as anyone with any inkling of science fandom is well aware — is the annual arrival of the Perseid meteor shower. Here in the DC suburbs it’s too bright to see much, so I’ll make do with Perry Como’s last big hit, 1957’s “Catch a Falling Star”.

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

For love may come and tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
Just in case you feel you wanna hold her
You’ll have a pocket full of starlight

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

For love may come and tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
And just in case you feel you wanna hold her
You’ll have a pocket full of starlight (pocket full of starlight)

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

For when your troubles start multiplyin’
They just might
It’s easy to forget them without tryin’
With just a pocket full of starlight

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

(Save it for a rainy day)
Save it for a rainy day
