Sunday Samples 323 (one day late)

April 15, 2013

At my favorite theater in the DC area — and the best in DC as just by Washington City Paper readers — they play music between films and in the lobby. One track has been in the mix recently, and I was convinced that it was a new single from Yes or something. But no, it’s The Black Atlantic with “Darkling, I Listen”

This is bleak but in beautiful translation
From infinity to the pen to the mouth
I sing for the undertow

Darkling, I listen for its crash upon my shore

These scars are but memories to cherish
Promises carved into a chasm wall
I remain hidden inside their words
Composed like bronze, I bend a knee
Before the sun that dives in the sea

When I die, fling my ashes high for the wind to disperse

All of my intentions remain ethereal
All of my dreams impossible

Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived

Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived

This is bleak but in beautiful translation
From infinity to the pen to the mouth
I sing for the undertow

Darkling, I listen for its crash upon my shore

Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived

Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived
Save the ones I lived

When I die
When I die, fling my ashes to
To the wind
