Sunday Samples 273

April 29, 2012

There’s been a bunch of buzz about Kraftwerk recently since they performed a series of concerts at the Museum of Modern Art, each essentially recreating one of their seminal electronic albums in its entirety. Here’s 1977’s “Trans-Europe Express”, from the album of the same title. The percussion track does a wonderful job of evoking the clack of a train’s wheels along the rails as it crosses the continent.

It’s in English since I couldn’t find a good video of the original German version. They recorded both at once, though, so it’s pretty original itself. And this is the version that went to number 67 on the American pop charts.
